    Default Hello from Brew City

    Hello all.

I've been out of the game for many years, but the bug is coming back. Starting to acquire parts for a new build. I'm sure this sickness is going to get out of hand again, just as it did last time. Funny thing is that so much has changed since I got out, it's like learning all over again. Last build was am AMD x64 x2. Found out about this site from a friend who is now my sounding board for ideas, when I was once his. The student has become the teacher. Ha.

This build will be mostly geared toward video/photo editing, maybe some gaming, and just all around general use. I was never much of a PC gamer. I dont really plan on pushing any limits, just something nice and stable on air. But as the sickness takes hold who knows, may be on water by the end of the year. Have an 1155 board on the way from newegg, going to be running probably going to run either an i7 2600K or 2700K. At least 16gb RAM, maybe 32, so many decisions left to make.

    Anyway, enough rambling from me.

Hey Eric. I am south of ya in Chicago and I review CPU's and motherboards here at Pure OC. What is your budget? If it is enough, Sandybridge E processors are better than 2700K. The 3820 is pretty cheap but X79 motherboards cost a little more. The 3930K is $500 at microcenter. All the other hardware remains constant as far as pricing.

Not sure I want to dump $500+ on chip. I'm not sure I have a budget really. Just kind of buying parts as I go along and money allows. Already was leaning towards a 1155 socket, and this weekend newegg had an Asus p8z77-v-lk for $109 after rebates so I pulled the trigger on it, should have it in my hands later this week after the holiday. Since I probably wont be going extreme with the OC it seemed like a decent bang for the buck. Was also looking at the fact that since this is a semi-budget build this time around (being grown up with car payments, house payments etc sucks) I can use integrated graphics for now as well, then upgrade video later.

So far I'm just waiting for that to come so I can mount the board in my case and mark some locations for wire management holes etc and get to cutting and painting on my case. That should take up some time until the other parts start coming around.

I wanted the side panel laser cut with my avatar, but with so many little cutouts I'm going to settle for finding a place to laser engrave the plexi so I can edge light it instead.

Can't cancel, its already two hops into the trek, and one away from my local UPS hub. I guess I should have asked around, but not many guys are willing to sell to somebody with low post count and only a few days registered on a forum. I definitely appreciate the offer. What have you got for 1155 chips?

What have you got for 1155 chips?

Wow, wish there was a microcenter here in Milwaukee. The prices there seem pretty good. For what I would be paying at newegg for a 2700k ($309) I could get a 3770k for even cheaper ($289 at MC). Not sure which is better at this point in my research. Still learning this new stuff.

There are two locations in the Chicago area. One in the city (91 miles away) one in Westmont (98 miles). If I were to decide it was worth the gas to drive down I would go to Westmont to avoid the city.
