Send me a PM when you know what parts you need, I should be able to help you out with a lot of them, or even a complete build.

I prefer AMD over Intel, always have, IMO i think AMD is a better Gaming Chip, and they are more for a budget friendly build, as far as building the PC:

Building your own computer from basic parts can be a challenging and entertaining experience, giving you a major sense of accomplishment when completed. It can be great fun!!!

But ... for someone who is starting out with little to no computer knowledge ... it can potentially be very difficult and frustrating. This is because it is not always as easy as plugging Parts A, B, and C into Part D with the results then working nicely. That can happen, sure. However, there can be other times where you spend a lot of time trying to figure out why Part B isn't working right. Or you might find yourself trying to figure out why once assembled the computer won't boot past its BIOS or even start up at all. Be prepared for that. Building a computer from scratch is not necessarily easy for newcomers, and can sometimes be troublesome even for experienced builders. But if you are honestly enthused with the idea ... do it! Don't come at it half-heartedly though, or you may end up wishing you'd simply bought pre-built. Here are some things to read as a way to get started; search the web for others.

This is a sample tutorial for building a PC: How to Build a Computer from Scratch: The Complete Guide

And here are some articles with regard to parts selection. Use them merely as a baseline. Consider choosing alternate parts to get the final costs down, or to improve performance by spending a bit more in a key area.

Build a PC: Recommended Builds (July 2013): Build a PC: Recommended Builds (July 2013) | Maximum PC

System Builder Marathon, Q2 2013: System Value Compared: System Builder Marathon, Q2 2013: System Value Compared - Mini-ITX, Done Three Ways

How to Build: All-in-One PC: How to Build: All-in-One PC | Maximum PC

A good, reliable place to buy parts is Newegg.com. A good brick-and-mortar store is Micro Center. Amazon.com is another alternative (if sold and shipped by Amazon because of the easy return policies). I've also used FrozenCPU.com and Performance-PCs.com. And get to know your local computer parts store.
Alternate System: i7 3930K @ 4.6GHz, ASUS Rampage IV Formula, 16GB Corsair Vengeance, AMD 6990, Samsung 840 Pro 256GB, Cooler Master HAF XB, Seasonic X-1250, various NoiseBlocker e-Loop fans.

I went out yesterday and bought a How to for dummies and a started reading a How to Maximum PC magazine I stole off the back of our toilet. There really isn't a shortage of computer stuff just laying around our house. It says everything you need to know. Bunch of gibberish to me, for now. I've been looking in his bins of parts and seeing what I can use.
