Default Antec 300 Case Mods - Started Feb 2012

Time for some fun. This build graciously sponsored by...me!

I must add a "thanks" to Deton for originally giving me the mod bug - not exactly the same term my wife used. And to all those out there posting work logs for the continued inspiration, keep up the good work.

Hopefully it will end up a nice piece but I can tell already its going to be a learning experience. Since I wont get it painted for a few more weeks, im going to have to build it out to game on for now.

However, this wouldn't be a mod log if there wasn't any modding going down. First order of business, RIP windowless side panel, we hardly knew ye:

I wonder what the neighbors think of the sqealing coming from the garage as I cut. My son watched for a bit but even his big earmuffs weren't enough and he went in even though I was using all the tools he would normally love to watch.

Several hours of drilling, filing and sanding later. Damn that left side isnt straight, will have to fix later. Note to self, use a friggin jig next time.

Bolt some plastic in there temporarily, keeps the dust out:

Here you can see some of the holes I made with the knockout punch. The whole set was only $25-30 bucks, every pc builder should have one!

    Complete for today:

Stupid SATA cables. Don't worry, LEFT to right angles have been ordered. As well as sleeved front panel and USB extenders.

I want another hole for the 24 pin and a better route for the front panel stuff. I would also like a hole in the bottom for PSU fan and a hole in the MB tray for the power cables once it is flipped over. Maybe I can get all the HD up in the 5.25. Then I would have room for an internal rad...

The sickness takes another victim. It will all have to wait though, it is tax season after all.

Thanks, yep ima paint the whole thing...well ima have it painted anyway. I have a friend who does autobody work and has a paint booth in his shop. Hopefully he has some good stuff sitting around. I was thinking maybe dark blue like the one by MNPCTECH. Sadly I dont have quite thier level of resources so I can only hope it will be half as nice as that one. It seems like the Intel board with its standard green PCB would fit in best in blue if not green. I can't go green, its the enemy's color where I'm from, though not because I have anything against nVidia. I generally prefer them and if Kepler is as good as the rumors and offers triple-monitor support I might roll one of those this time around.

I sure thought so. Maybe they are subtlely encouraging those of us who care to move up the price gradient and get the extreme series stuff. Bastards!

Or it could be my bad buying right to right angle SATA cables...but I'm passing that buck!

Its very strange to have your Sata cables pointing across your board at the GPUs, I always thought the idea was to keep those two as far apart as possible, obviously Intel thinks differently...

Just slapped leather for a 7970, WOOT! Maybe, just maybe, there will be an update next weekend. We will see though as the egg has taken a full 7 days to get me stuff many times before.
