What a cool build. Tell your friend it is really awsome. I have an older AMD APU laying around and have been thinking about doing an HTPC build with it. Never even used on before. Anyone give me some of the benefits to an HTPC and how powerful it needs to be. Would connect it to a 55" Toshiba LED TV.

For HTPC you are more then enough have AMD APU or INTEL 3000 integrated, will handle everything. HTPC have to be small, not angry on power and quiet ... that it. That HTPC is little overkill, but looks nice and he enjoyed to build that beast.
