    Default New Build

So I have been having issues with the laptop since 3 or so months ago. I had broken a ribbon socket joint, where it met the motherboard. I guess it needs a new mobo. So I broke down and got a desktop. All in all with the monitor I spent under $800.

Nice build! Just wait, soon enough you too may fall to liquid cooling fever
Great cable management by the way, I've built into a few of those sentey cases and I cant say they were easy to deal with. There was a lot of cuts from the sharp metal and there was no holding back the swears as I found the cables were just a LITTLE too thick to fit behind the mobo lol

I will take some pics of the cable management this week and update this thread, I put a fan below by the hd too, you cant see from the pics, but it pulls air on top of the hd from the back of the case, helping the gpu get some flow too, and flow to the top of the gpu, where the two other fans are, out the top. the case is cheap, works, i used bread ties too. :P so ghetto rigged, but it doesnt vibrate and works like a charm. I did take my time with the cable routing, mostly thought. I have one thing to do and thats to move one of the fans plug to another socket on the mobo, giving me the control in asus fan expert. ATM it is in the second cpu assist socket. It isnt fan 1 2 3 or 4, or the cpu fan, its another one. neway, thanks, will post some more pics soon.

:P Im excited about it. So far it has been great! no issues what so ever. the first upgrade Id like to get an ssd for the os and video games. then my music production on a second ssd with the 1TB I have now for back up and samples, mass music storage, etc. all the other stuff. I already have an external hd for another backup but i use this for music production alone... its my lifes savings and I dont let it touch anything. (though that is at a fellow producers house), Id like to get 4 more gigs of ram, and possibly the 4 core from intel, what ever name is it or what not, something that can overclock, but is typically the cheapest overclockable i7 for this socket. Idk how hot the haswells run, but I looked into it, it seems they can get up to ten or more * hotter... but I was wondering how well they do underwater? Id like to also pick up a cpu fan and heatsink that is like a prolimatech or the dark knight from Xmatech, (spellcheck). One day, Ill get a better gpu but for now, the 8800 gts does all I need, I can over clock it, it does run around 70* under load, running 4 eve clients. perfect. I really dont need more. I got a free version of need for speed installed and eve online runs smoothly. the only concern I have though is OS... A made another post about this in the OS section, but a summary, a friend lent me an OS. it is not hacked, it has a key, but I cannot register it. So i got like no time left i think, 3o days? to install a new OS. I have windows vista 64 disc for my gateway, but idk if that will work on this now that I had installed that on that laptop. should assume id be in the same situation I am in now with the OS given to me from a friend. So, I was considering linux. but I got some school work to do first, then I think I have some research to do because I dont think the music production software will work with linux. IDK ... research. :P ty for the comments and support guys. 0/ I will take pics this weekend of the cable management and get them up.

:P thanks. I just got it! setup was totally easy and no tools were required. It works perfectly for now, till I get large flat surface (table/desk). I wanted the computer more than a new bed too... so Im toughing it out. I also just moved into the place, which is amazing! So the i5 came today, along with the memory. I been playing bf4 with the pentium and it works, on the lowest settings ofc, and I was surprised as to the performance from it! what an amazing processor! it i5 is up and running. I havent adjusted anything, asus suit for the win. I seen the freq hit 4.3 GHZ for something, was running an optimization test, which it then blue screened, and continued off where it was, finished with no problems... the added memory helps so much! Its fast too! so, Im running stock voltages and settings, and have tried bf4 and eve online with it. Eve is pretty, and bf4 is still laggy, but Im sure I can make improvements via settings. The GPU is the major bottleneck, I wish I had the $ for a nicer card, but tbh, I was impressed when I loaded max settings on both games., my fps counter isnt on top of bf4 yet, but I didnt think it was playable... on lowest settings it feels like 20 fps... maybe 45 without the laggy stuff, which would then be nice cause its smooth at times. ty for the support, Ill keep you updated.

    Default Re: New Build

So here are some more picsk, I took this morning, Ive made my first mod already, adding two micro hd's from my laptop, used what I had, which was two hd trays and a pci slot cover. works perfectly. Youll love it! If I had the resources to actually fabricate, I could knock some socks off im sure as in design and such... I should totally take this to a profession. Im changing my major as well, Im just so strung out on mathematics at this point, I just dont see learning it now. Thus, Ill be taking some graphic art and computer classes. maybe even business too, so I can open my own business. I wouldnt mind building a few pcs a month, that are custom, to spec and or idea, and sell them or have them pre purchased. made in my living room. IDK. something to tinker with... Id love to see how many hands i get in here for fans of graphic art? I have really come up with some funky images I edit and fabricate on free softwares, and have considered perusing this as well. Anyway, not a life story, but its all related, So I named this computer Aeon. and Shes a work station for art and gaming, and basically letting go. When I get to my friends Ill pick up my Quadro fx4600 and sli these two g80s together... cad and maya and other programs alike, should work very smoothly. Im happy so far.

Added two hds, one 200 gb and another 250 gb, plus I have the 1TB. Im going to save an img file on a cd of my hd as a back up here this day or tomorrow, and use this but backdate it every 30 days till I get an OS. I have an OS on each laptop hd, but I havent gotten that far yet. I have the install for my gateway vista 64 bit, but the asus motherboard software I have doesnt work with vista. So I have some work to do. Heres the pics. Njoy!
