I've been reading the many drawbacks of Crossfire/SLI.

For example, lag(micro-stutter) multi-GPU setups have.

This has me second guessing all over the place! lol

I guess the only way to avoid this is to get one of those 2 GPUs on one card deal.

Right now, newegg is selling the 4850X2 2GB card for $219, the same price as the 1GB card(which they are out of). The 4870X2 goes for $379 for the Sapphire 2GB card. $440 for two dual GPU cards to run in Quad Crossfire is amazing. I am only running one of the 4850X2's right now, but I am able to play almost all of my games on max settings. Certain games run better on nVidia cards, but on those that aren't picky, it performs perfectly. Been running Prototype @ 1650 x 1028 and all settings maxed out with no problems at all. Same goes for COD: WAW and L4D. Only ones I really have a problem with are Crysis (go figure, lol) and Sacred 2: Fallen Angel. Problems with the last one are just because there is so much "eye-candy" in the game and it is incredibly detailed.

Oh, and 2 single cards will out perform a dual GPU card almost every time. But, with the Dual GPU cards, you can run Quad Crossfire with less space being taken up in the case and usually lower temperatures, if you are careful about keeping things cool in your case.

    That should sell quickly.

I'm running a 4890 Toxic with the intention to snag another as my play money replenishes.

Have you decided on a replacement?

Most likely its going to be a OC 4890. I haven't decided on what brand yet... there are so many different variances.

I dig the Sapphire toxic and vapor-x.
Both cards have non reference cooling and are quieter. I have heard the chokes are upgraded also.

As Stan said earlier in this thread, two 4890 Toxic's would be the way to go. I haven't heard of the stuttering issues in quite some time, and the performance of the cards are second to none in the ATI world. Well... not counting dual GPU setups.

I decided to get one XOC 4890 now and another next month, along with a 1TB HDD.. sorta like Stan setup with the VelociRaptor.

Oh yeah, I got the X4 955 and 8GB DDR3 today from newegg. Now I can finally start putting my build together. I will run it off the onboard graphics until I get the 4890 next week.

I may need to update the bios.. perhaps the motherboard does not support CPU on this bios version. I think the memory is wrong because I may have to set the timing manual.

I'm installing the OS now. As soon as its finish I'll update the bios.

Flashed the bios, it now shows 3.2GHz

Now if I can figure out this DDR3 timing in the bios...

After a few reboots the bios fixed itself.. now says 7.7.7.27 for DDR3 time the specs are suppose to be 7.7.7.24

    Close enough!

Lets see about Overclocking. I'm looking at the temps now on the 4 cores and V10 have them at 30c sweet!!

I have a few more systems installs to do and post some pics..( yes! I took pictures ha haha) before I jump into that.

Oh well, the side panel fan is hitting against the V10.. So I had to remove it.

I'm getting all 5.9s in windows rating system...except for graphics. But we all know why is that. Do you see that big gaping hole on the motherboard? No graphics Card.
