In terms of load or power draw WCG is not as stressful as most of the stress programs but for all that you need to keep an eye on your results (My Grid> (in left column) Results status then use the filters at the top to check for errors or invalids. Once you have checked daily for a week and all is well then weekly or monthly is enough. One or two of the projects take note of which rigs are stable and then send work that is not validated by another machine. This means instant gratification because as soon as you send the results back you get your points.

Rather than trying to get a rig to its best overclock you may want to consider efficiency. With the aid of a Kill-a-Watt you can tune for either points per watt or Whetstone and Drhystone results per watt. SB and IB are king for efficiency

For HTPC's and the like one can even consider undervolting
    Rig2: 2*e5-26xx (16c/32t @2.4), Asus z9 pe-d8 ws, 32gb ripjawsz under water, rig3 2*e5-26xx (16c/32t @2.4), Supermicro 7047A-T 16GB 1600 ecc reg, on air, Rig4: 2*e5-26xx (16c/32t @3.1), Supermicro x9 DAi 16GB 1600 ecc reg, on air, Rig5: 2*e5-2660 (16c/32t @2.7), Supermicro x9 DRW iF 32GB 1600 ecc reg, on air

Default Re: World Community Grid - PureOverclock team updates

I just brought another 2600K rig online tonight, give it a bit of time for results to start showing

Grumpy, I see what you mean about stressing. My Sandy Bridge HTPC rig isn't being pushed terribly hard at stock speed of 3.8GHz, no voltage tweaks. If all goes well for a day or two, I'll OC it up to 4.2GHz and go from there. The cooling is the weak link on that rig, so I won't spank it.

I'm a bit hesitant to get my main rig online, but will see. It'll smoke my other 2 rigs, but for now my 2 crunchers will suffice

Slow & steady wins the race. Looks like I'm not going to be #2 around here for long...

My Sandy is a great set & forget rig. I went on vacation for a week and left it running. No problems. (at 4.4 GHz water-cooled)

I see some people are getting bit by the crunching bug...

Hmmmmm......my slice seems low actually. I now have 3 Sandy Bridge/SB-E rigs crunching 24/7. My pie slice should increase considerably very soon, unless I'm doing something wrong......? Maybe it takes time for the points to start rolling in and update??

Stats are updated twice each day. Some work-units require validation (an identical work-unit crunched by another user & results compared) which can delay your credit for that wu.

Skyguy13: with 3 SB's running 24/7, yes you are very quickly going to climb the charts. You should be eating green pie by the next update...

When you look at your stats page at Free-DC you will see RAC (recent averaged credit). This will take around a month to build up to its proper level.

As Plan.B said just because you did the work today does not mean you will receive the credit today as you may have to wait for your wingman (the other person who got the same piece of work in order that the results can be validated) to complete the work too.

The size of your cache of work units can have some bearing on when you get the credit. If you have a 1 day cache and your wingman has a 7 day cache then you may have to wait a week.

If you do this for a particular cause then ignore what I have to say next.

For maximising points I recommend that you take a whole day or two of valid results from your My Grid page (results status) and load them into a spreadsheet. You then need to resolve the issue of converting the points claimed/points awarded into numbers. once this is done then sort the whole sheet on points awarded and you will quickly see which projects are the most points productive on that particular machine.

If you then go into My Grid again and select device manager you can either edit which projects you will run on that profile or you can set up a new profile dedicated to the machine in question.

I would point out that the points system is a rather convoluted affair with many different considerations combining to generate the points score that you might get for the work done. Each project has a slightly different way of calculating and it is this which, if you want to maximise points, has to be considered.

Of course you can also take the view that all of the work has equal value to mankind and just leave all projects selected, in which case the WCG system will pass you the work that has the highest priority. This may result in the percentages of work done on each project being somewhat disparate.
