Are you talking about the BOINC manager window being blank?
Did you catch the BSOD code??
I guess, it's the window when I run the program for WCG
Yes...It was unrelated but if you must know it was a 0x0F4. And yes I know that is a corrupted OS file error, and no I am not going to reinstall windows because I'm too lazy and it doesn't happen often.
If you have enabled the gpu you may have some crashes. Its beta. I have had some problems with the AMD driver crashing since I started using the gpu. I suspended it and havent had any issues yet.
Also after you restart and window is blank you can select the wcg file and click update it will get moving again. Or it will wait until the next scheduled update to start. No need to uninstall.
BOINC by default has a hidden folder. You must set your OS to show hidden files and folders. After doing that uninstall BOINC. Then, in Win7 go to My Computer>C drive> Program Data and delete the BOINC folder. IN XP go to My Computer>C drive>Documents and Settings>All Users>Application Data and delete the BOINC folder. Reinstall BOINC, reattach to WCG and start crunching again.
0x0F4 can be something else. Bug Check 0xF4: CRITICAL_OBJECT_TERMINATION
There is nothing to click, it's just a window frame. And the BSoD was completely unrelated to WCG, I f'ed up my OS files at sometime so it does it every now and again.
I had it save the data to the same folder as the program and I deleted it after uninstalling and had the same thing happen on reinstall, it seemed to still have other files stored somewhere. I'll check out that link later thanks.
Well you definitely have the right cpu for wcg. Very nice rig you are running. One thing to note when uninstalling, run CCleaner after uninstalling to remove the BOINC registry entries (or remove them manually). After that you will get a fresh re-install. I start with an un-install & re-install if the client is working correctly. A bit heavy-handed but it works. Please note, even after un-installing with the program or through windows control panel, the program directory will still remain. By default it is program files/boinc (or program files (x86)/boinc). Delete it manually. (sorry Linux users, I have no experience with that OS). After re-install check the faq for specific issues: World Community Grid - View Thread - The Start Here Forum Frequently Asked Questions Index
Perhaps in your case wcg is bringing out some system instability that has not otherwise made itself known. Try gradually ramping up the boinc client's resource use and see how your system behaves. Turn off gpu use in the client preferences, and make sure are not set to participate in beta projects in wcg home, my grid. Configure the client to run at say 20% cpu and 30% ram utilization and let it run for a couple days. Incrementally increase resource use and give the system a day or two in between to run. Try to get to 100% cpu usage and whatever ram usage suits you, say 50%. Install an app to monitor cpu, nb, and mobo temps. I use HWMonitor: CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting

Your system is not stable. Increase CPU voltage
Thanks, never thought of the registry cleaner.
:brick: That error is a corrupted OS file, that file was corrupted when I had the wrong sleep mode for my SSD which caused it to randomly disconnect from the system. The only reason I haven't fixed it yet is because I'd need to reinstall windows and I'm too lazy for that.
My system is perfectly stable, I'm using like 1.4v for only 3.5GHz. And that error is completely unrelated to anything for overclocking or this program.
CCleaner did remove BIONIC files from the registry but WCG still does the same thing and the installer still remembers where I put it's folders.
Try a repair install. That will keep all your files and folders and should fix your corruption error. If you deleted the hidden BOINC folder and you still have the problems with BOINC after a reinstall than I don't know what else to suggest.
In most probability, the system is NOT stable. Run Prime 95 or LinX for 4 hours
LinX for 20 passes at 25,000 problems. Prime 95 for 4 hours
Fine
MVG + 3770K + 8GB ram = pass Memtest 18 hours, pass LinX 50 passes *4, Pass Prime95 18 hours.
run WCG = Bsod within the hour
add voltage from 1.28 to 1.30v = no Bsods but errors.
enable pll and add volts to 1.31 = System runs fine but I get the occasional invalid result so I am still going to update bios then start tweaking again.
Moral of the story is: There is Prime95 stable and LinX stable then there is WCG stable and sometimes finding that setting that needs tweaking can be a real Biatch.
Another thing; I ran 1 rig for a year and it was stable as you like throughout. ......Decided to try linux instead and the machine just would not run that overclock at those settings. again needed more volts (but runs work units a lot faster)
(Observations from me that may or may not help those with issues)
I had a simliar issue with the overclock on my old system. Ran everything stable forever until I turned on Folding at home. System would random reboot every hour or so. Temps looked good. Everything was fine but still had the problem. i backed OC off a tad and never had problem again.
I ran prime 95 for 7.5 hours and not a single problem, and WCG had run the day before and most of that day.
And anyway this thread isn't about my systems stability so... Anyone know how I can reinstall WCG?
Have you run Prime95 since? And the thread is about your problem and it could be not stable. Most of the time BSOD is due to instability. Even if you pass Prime95 7 hrs does not mean its stable. Back the overclock down a notch or 2 and see if it still happens. Overclocking does not help gaming in most cases anyhow on the CPU.
Can you give me a step by step of how you installed the BOINC client after the BSOD. I must have missed something.
A 0x0F4 is a hardware problem usually in this case I think the problem has to do with my SSD which seems to randomly disconnect. The overclock is 3.5Ghz which is lower than the stock Turbo frequency which would run at the stock voltage. my current vcore is 1.264 which I'm pretty sure is quite a bit higher than the stock vcore. And overclocking may not help with gaming but it will with shared computing.
I deleted it's program folder, used CCleaner to clear the registry then installed it as usual but the installer still remembered where I had chosen to put the program files.
Not sure if what yo have done already will allow this but.... Try using the installer to repair your install then try uninstalling using the installer to do so.
On the drive of your choice create a new folder called BOINC.
Inside that BOINC folder create another and this time call it BOINCDATA.
During the install process there is a box which asks you where you want to install.... Clicking advanced allows you to change the standard setup
http://img255.imageshack.us/img255/4922/myboinc.jpg
point the program install at BOINC and the data at BOINCDATA.

Get rid of the tick in use screensaver .... tick the for all users if you want.
then let it install
You must delete the BOINC folder (not program folder) that is hidden by default. It sounds like it is corrupted and a clean install won't work until that folder is gone.Quote:

Lolz thats how I've been installing it expect the drive was F and the data folder was just called Data, at first I was wondering where you got images of me installing it XD. So your saying I should install it twice?
I moved that folder into the program folder so it was deleted at the same time.
...I really want to hit myself now...
This is a picture of what happened when I opened it after the BSOD...

Glad you got it figured out. Sometimes the client does that for me too, completely minimizes. Dunno why.
Im trying very hard not to laugh but im not doing a good job. Id be so pissed at myself just like you are! lol
I estimate the total lose to have been in the neighborhood of 4000 point from that XD
