    Default Weak Key Crunching

So I learned something new about World Community Grid recently: weak key crunching.

If you log into the WCG website and go to My Grid > My Profile, near the bottom of the screen you will see "weak account key" followed by an alpha-numeric sequence (the key). With this key, another WCG user can crunch on your account, but not change any of your WCG settings (like what projects to run). The run-time and points from the other user will appear in your stats, permanently. You have to make a little batch file with the key in it to get the client started. I'll post those instructions later.

So, let's have a little fun with this. I've got some cores/threads to spare. Who wants some? How about the first round going to Cyberburnout. First to join and first to start using the fancy sig. Let's get some more color on that sig! Cyber, post your key or PM it to me (you can change it later on the WCG page). Or if you would like to decline let me know.

Step right up! No need to change it before you give it to me. I was just letting people know that is an option (some people like to change it periodically if they give it out alot). Just post or PM me your key and I'll get things started.

    Weak Key Crunching. How to.

    1. Make a batch file with this single line in it:

boinc --attach_project "http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org" INSERT WEAK KEY HERE (AND WITHOUT THE QUOTES AROUND THE LINK!!)

(Put the weak key you want to crunch under where it says "insert weak key here". Remove quotes around link.)

    2. Put this .bat file in your BOINC directory

    3. Open the BOINC client, advanced view, and detach from WCG. Close the client.

    4. Open the .bat file (double-click), and let it run for a few seconds. Close the .bat file window.

    5. Open BOINC client, advanced view. Under "Projects, account" it should show the name of the user you are crunching for. Let 'er rip.

    That's it. EZ.

Note: I couldn't get the wcg link to show up as the actual link (http://www.worldcommunity.... etc.). It kept changing to the title of the page. So I had to put in the " " to get it to show up right. Remove those when you make the .bat file.

Cyber, I'm down to 4 threads on you so I could do some gpu crunching. I'll be gone for 2 weeks starting tomorrow, so those 8 threads probably won't be crunching. I see you broke 1 million and you've got some badges going. I'll keep the 4 threads going. Anybody else interested "borrowing" some dedicated threads?
