Default Hcc gpu app has launched.

For those of you who are willing to let WCG use your graphics card to crunch too the first of the apps, that for HCC, has launched.

You can find more info HERE

Feel free to post questions in this thread. It is 4am here so don't expect a quick answer though

Very nice. I know they've been working on this for awhile. Time to see what gtx580 x 2 can do.

Ati 5xxx and later cards are good ....If you have an "old" 5870 for instance then reckon on around 3.5 mins to complete a work unit with an average points value of maybe 33 points (wcg)

by my calculation that would mean around 411 work units a day and 13577 points which is heading for 2000ppd boinc from this card plus 1 core.

The very best I can get from a highly overclocked and tuned SB rig is maybe 1500 ppd (BOINC), 1000 is more common per core/thread.

Still working and watching this so things may change as the info becomes more abundant.

This sort of output will make a huge difference to the output of an older platform like 775

Got it working. 2 gpu threads (gtx580 sli) + 6 cpu threads (2600k w/ HT). Each gpu thread takes a cpu thread also. Got to make sure that 1) the "use graphics card" option and project "help conquer cancer" are selected in WCG home page/my grid/my projects; 2) in the BOINC client in the advanced view/advanced/preferences the settings are the what you want them (for me: use gpu while computer is in use, and do not confirm before connecting to the internet, and a work queue of 2-4 days, and 3) in the BOINC client in the advanced view/activity, select "gpu always" or "gpu based on preferences."

Step 3 is what I forgot. It was set on "use gpu never."

Cranking out the hcc wu's in about 2.5 minutes each.

Is it a long-term "set & forget" setup? Depends on your cooling. I'm going to baby-sit my rig for awhile, keep an eye on temps, and see how it does.

Edit: My rig is running fine all afternoon at the above specs. GPU temps are stable at about 40C. I have a 10 inch Honeywell desktop fan (Wal-Mart) on the cards. The vrm's don't feel as hot to the touch as they do when I'm running Skyrim, Fallout 3, etc.

    Rig idle is 100 watts

Running 8 x GFAM takes this to 210 watts and would net 10K+ ppd in linux.

Running 1 x GPU plus 7 x GFAM takes the power use to 270 watts where I predict it will produce around 15K extra ppd

Running 2 x GPU plus 6 x GFAM takes power use to 360 watts so a single card would seem to use 90 watts to produce 15K. This figure takes into account the losses expected by running less cpu tasks

hd 5870 Cards are under very little stress it seems

Agreed. Add a gtx260 or an ATI 5 series card to s775 quad or dual-core rig and you have a serious cruncher for Help Conquer Cancer. The hardware is easy to find at low prices.

That's awesome. The ATI/AMD cards are doing very well in this application. How are your temps?

If you are crunching GPU please post here with rig and card specs. Looking in afterburner, for example, what percentage load do you get?

If you find this number is below around 95% you can choose to run more than one instance on each GPU
    Rig2: 2600K, p67 ud4 8gb samsung green under water on the MOAF rig3 920, x58 ud5, 16GB ripjaws Z on the MOAF.rig4 : 3770K, MIVG, samsung green, spinpoint 103, on the MOAF

    2 x gtx580 SC (797/1594/2025)

    6 cpu threads + (2 gpu + 2 cpu threads)

GPU work-units done in about 3 minutes

Load on each gpu fluctuates between 88% and 92%

Haven't made the comparison between HCC gpu work-units and BOINC/WCG points per gpu work-unit yet
